Hampshire Art for Recreation and Therapy

I am Founder and Chair of Trustees of hArt, a New Forest-based charity, established in 2014, which aims to improve the health and well-being of people of all ages and abilities through participation in the creative arts.

We are able to provide tailor-made projects and workshops for individuals and groups with specific challenges as well as offering sociable and recreational activities in a safe and non-judgmental environment.

hArt‘s projects are led by fully qualified Art Psychotherapists, arts facilitators and teachers, supported by experienced volunteers.

We offer a variety of ways to take part –

• Drop-in sessions where all abilities and ages are welcome to come and try a new skill, pick up the threads of a forgotten talent, or simply to make new friends.

• Courses and workshops tailor-made for special groups facing particular challenges, created and led by fully-qualified art therapists and arts facilitators.

hArt works in various locations. Our office is in the ArtSway building in Sway, Lymington, where we run some of our workshops and sessions. One of our main aims is to take hArt out and about, using village halls, schools, colleges and care homes, and to involve local people in local places. We hope to make hArt sessions welcoming and enjoyable for everyone, whatever their age, ability and interest.

The hArt team is a small group of local people all passionate about seeing the charity successfully delivering its aims throughout the New Forest and Hampshire – and beyond. The team of therapists is headed by a qualified Art Psychotherapist with over 20 years’ experience.

We are actively seeking therapists, arts facilitators, artists and makers as well as volunteers to help in a variety of ways. We will be delighted to provide further information to anyone wanting to join us in this exciting new project.

Come and enjoy our open sessions and spread the word. Volunteer and join the team. Artists and makers will be invited to run fee-paying courses with profits supporting hArt. If you would like to discuss running a course for us, or if you would like to attend a course to learn a new skill, or develop an existing talent, please contact us. Help us to set up and run drop-in sessions in more remote locations.

We need your money! Our well-planned programme of funding applications aims to attract support from as many individuals and organisations as possible. Donations are welcome from everyone, we hold a variety of fund-raising events, and profits from fee-paying courses and workshops will be used to support hArt.

Our website,, is an up-to-date source of news and information.

Whatever and however you feel you would like to contribute to this new community-based project, I will be delighted to discuss this with you and look forward to welcoming you to a hArt event.
